Writer Kartar Singh Duggal was posted at All India Radio, Lahore in 1947. Here's his account of the communal riots in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Delhi, and Jullundur and his analysis on the root cause of the violence. He talks about the social scene of Lahore and his contemporary friends such as Faiz Ahmed Faiz.

He also discusses the literary scene of Lahore and how the languages of Urdu and Punjabi were divding the people and creating a religious wedge among communities. KS Duggal narrates his story about marrying a Muslim woman during the riots.

Story of Punjab riots starts first with the violence in Rawalpindi and then spreads to other parts of the province. Riots in Lahore resulted in riots in Delhi. He talks about Pandit Nehru going to Connaught Place urging the rioters to stop the violence.

In Punjab, the non-muslims wielded the enconomic power and more than religious division, it was the class divisions among the people that contributed to the violence. People would often say that with transfer of power "We will get their lands, we will get their houses, we will get their trade, we will get their economic power".
