People would create a mental map of the area... this is Sikh village, this is Araian village or a Dogar village.

People here knew that the partition would happen in 10-15 days. First they thought that these 4 zillas are going to Pakistan. First there was an ailaan that these areas; Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur and Ferozepur would go to Pakistan.

But then there was another ailaan that these areas will now go to India.

Sikh jathas started attacking the villagers. According to this person even the military was helping the jathas. The villagers started moving out in the morning. People saw lot of dead bodies in Ropar nahar. People were unarmed and typically carried lathis for protection.

First they went to Ferozepur near Attari. Then they reached Kasur.

Gates on the river head were opened for refugees going either side of the border.
